Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity Alumni Association

Pi Kappa Alpha Endowed Scholarship Fund Contribution CardThe top priority for the Alpha Omega Alumni Association is to help the chapter members improve scholastic achievements. This will be accomplished by helping the chapter create a successful academic environment and by recruiting new members who have demonstrated scholarship success. It is impossible for the chapter to force members to succeed academically, but the chapter can create an atmosphere and expectation which encourages achievement.

High school graduates go to college to prepare themselves for the future, both in their chosen vocations and their personal lives. This is primarily achieved by learning an academic discipline. However, it is also very important to round out academic learning with experience and knowledge gained by participation in one or more of the many organizations on campus; such as, fraternities, sororities, student government, music, drama, cheerleading, and athletics. These organizations offer leadership opportunities for those who will accept the extra work and responsibility. The result will be Pike graduates who are prepared to succeed in their chosen professions and who will enjoy a rich life. Our job as alumni is to be sure that Pikes have the best opportunity to achieve these goals.

The principal elements of our scholarship program is as follows:
  1. Raise the academic standard to 3.0 GPA for recruiting new members. If a candidate has not achieved this standard, he must have other compelling qualities; such as, demonstrated leadership, achievements in music, drama, or other activities, and athletics.
  2. Form a Scholarship Committee to establish this scholarship program and oversee its execution. The committee must meet regularly to discuss progress and solve problems.
  3. Set goals and time schedules for improvement that are aggressive but achievable with effort.
  4. Establish "Quiet Hours" for study in the chapter house:
    A. At least 5 hours per day on days prior to classes. The normal requirement for time in class or laboratory plus study time is 3 hours per week per more or less than 3 hours per credit hour to meet scholarship goals.

    B. 24 hours per day during the week prior to and during mid-term and final exams.

    C. All other hours are "Courtesy Quiet" if anyone nearby is studying.
  5. Conduct "How to Study" workshops for all pledges and for actives who are not meeting a minimum standard for GPA.
  6. Establish a system of awards and incentives for scholarship achievement.
  7. A. Garnet Award for achievement of 3.25 to 3.49 GPA for a semester.

    B. Gold Award for achievement of 3.5 to 4.0 GPA for a semester.

    C. Monetary incentives for achievement each semester: $100 for the highest GPA, $50 for second, $25 for third, and $100 for greatest improvement in GPA. These incentives will be funded by the Alumni Association.

    D. All awards above will be presented during a Scholarship Dinner at the end of each semester. An Alumni Association officer or member should present the checks and emphasize the importance of scholarship.
  8. Maintain a Scholarship Bulletin Board with postings of:
    A. GPA ranking of all Greek houses with the Pike position highlighted.

    B. GPA's of all members at the end of each semester in descending numerical order.

    C. Scholarship award winners for the prior semester
